The Clone Wars: Review
If you are like most people by now you just read the title of this post “The Clone Wars: Review” and just don’t give a hoot, I didn’t either going into this movie. I took my five year old son, who loved every minute of it. That’s when it hit me for the first time in my long drawn out, agree with Patton Oswald, sadly disappointed with the prequels, Star Wars fandom life that neither the prequels nor this movie were meant for me. That’s where I think most of the anger towards Lucas is coming from, fans simply feel betrayed. To a certain extent they have been, but generally I think you just have to let it go. Lucas isn’t the man anymore, live with it…Without turning this into some existential discussion on the director Lucas was meant to be vs. what he turned out to be. Let me give a quick review of this film without dishing out any real spoilers:
Generally the film’s plot is not going to surprise anyone, I honestly wouldn’t be spoiling anything by going over it but what’s the point? Let’s just say it’s normal Sith are tricky and Jedi are slow on the uptake style Star Wars stuff. It moves at a really quick pace, much quicker than the three prequels ever did. It’s chock full of Clone Trooper vs. Robot action. The Light Saber duels are actually kind of a let down, the film makers have full CGI capability with this being an animated feature and all, they just don’t seem to push it like I would have expected them too. There’s plenty of insulting character stereotyping going on, most of us have always had issue with that particular type of Lucasism. The dialog is actually worse than the prequels, if that’s possible.
That being said, all-in-all, my son loved it, I saw him enjoy it as we sat there in the theater together, it’s not the same experience that I had growing up with Star Wars, that will likely never happen again for anyone. It wasn’t my Star Wars experience it was his, so I let it go and just enjoyed the film for what it was, like he did, with him by my side and I enjoyed it.
