    Review: Star Trek

    Posted by Gene in Sci-Fi

I have to say that I’ve been looking forward to this movie for quite some time now. I finally got to get out and see it opening weekend and it did not disappoint. I am now thoroughly convinced that J.J. Abrams is a genius film maker/story teller and will devour pretty much anything he produces from here on out.  This new Star Trek Kicking & Screaming video

    My Zinc Bed

    The Ilsa Wicked Warden divx

story works on several different levels.  If you are a long time Trekkie/Trekker

    Creature Comforts full

you’re going to love it for all of its references and classic recreations of dialog and snippets from the original series, if you couldn’t care less about Star Trek and just want to see a great movie that’s both engaging and entertaining then you’re also going to love this movie.

First the acting is top notch, Zachary Quinto delivers a performance that makes me pretty much give up on watching Heros, he’s impeccable as Spock. In several scenes he brings a sense of coolness to Spock that we’ve never seen before.

The Terminator dvdrip Hidden Agenda divx The Border Ghost Town: The Movie dvdrip Karl Urban does perhaps the best impersonation of DeForest Kelly i’ve ever seen, he’s just dead on.  Though Simon Pegg has to be the scene stealer as we discover him as Scotty on an ice planet (the equivelent of pulling the south pole desk job as a research scientist…)  Chris Pine does a very fine job playing James T. Kirk, he brings the swagger and never say die attitude we love from our starship captains. Hercules movies

    Desperate Hours movies

    The Arrival movie

The second and most important thing about this movie is the absolute genius of the story line, I won’t lay out any spoilers, but what J.J. Abrams has done is set himself up with a clean slate to tell more stories of the adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her crew without needing to rely on the heavy cannon that is the Star Trek universe.  It contains plenty of action scenes but they all seem logically arranged and they all pretty much make sense (in that Star Trek sort of way.)

Meta Critic is scoring this movie quite high and I have to agree with everyone else on this one, go see it and let us know how the experience is on IMAX for those of you lucky ones.
